Bucharest International Contemporary Dance and Performance Festival
The 9th edition of eXplore dance festival will take place in Bucharest at WASP – Working Art Space and Production and at MNAC – National Museum of Contemporary Art, from October 3rd to October 26th, 2014.eXplore dance festival — Bucharest International Contemporary Dance and Performance Festival is the most important international event dedicated to contemporary dance and performance held in Romania whose goal aims to increase the visibility of contemporary dance by presenting a consistent program to the wider public and dance professionals.
eXplore dance festival brings an intense and concentrated program to its audience, questioning the movement and the presence of the human body, testing the limits of technology versus conceptual art and performance, and developing moving stories for a wide public.
The 9th edition of the festival also reflects the results of the international residency and production programs developed in the past year in Bucharest, by 4Culture Association and WASP, encouraging creative experiments beyond artistic borders, searching for new formats of trans-disciplinary art.
The performances program of eXplore dance festival #9 consists of a selected number of works, introducing strong voices of nowadays European dance scene to the audience. Using a variety of artistic directions and aesthetic influences, the program aims at building a new and necessary dialogue concerning the contemporary body with all its political, emotional and social messages. A body drained of meaning, looking for a new, upgraded content in a consumerist era. A body without any reference points other than its own brain.
This year edition presents also a special, unique and non-conventional program dedicated to children, youth and family, including performances and workshops of dance, theater, new-media, creative drawings and games. Contemporary art seeks for a future, open-minded audience.
Each year, eXplore dance festival selects the most representative international works in tune with the newest visions in contemporary dance and performance and encourages experience exchanges and the promotion of young artists through dance performances, installations, work-in-progress presentations, workshops, lectures and dance film screenings.
This year's festival will present, throughout its duration, a selection of works from the X Platform exhibition, resulting from the newest international art residency for the research and production of interactive, new and trans-media projects in Bucharest, which is hosted by WASP – Working Art Space and Production and curated by Olivia Nitiş.
