CINEPOLITICA International Film Festival, the only festival of its kind in Romania, returns with a second edition, between March 2nd and 7th, at Cinema Studio and Cinema Elvira Popescu in Bucharest. CINEPOLITICA is a festival which aims to unveil and reveal the political mechanisms and motivations to the audience by using the art of cinema, to pay homage to all the filmmakers of the world who suffered and/or are suffering because of their ideological or stylistic options, to generate debates on political issues of general interest, to promote political filmmakers from the entire world, as well as to present to the Romanian audiences the latest trends in international cinema.

Following a successful first edition, which took place between June 15th and 21st 2012, CINEPOLITICA will once again offer cinephiles a selection of excellent films, debates and memorable meetings. Besides the eight titles in the international competition, which will vie for the Cinepolitica Trophy and the Cinepolitica Special Award, the festival will consist of screenings of famous full-length films, as well as short films with a political theme (fiction, documentary and animation), in the Panorama section. Most of the films will be screened as Romanian premieres, and will be presented in Bucharest by their directors and producers. Last year, the winner of the Cinepolitica Trophy was “Post-mortem”, by Pablo Larrain (Chile).

Special surprises for the audience will also be revealed during the opening and closing screenings, when renowned productions will be presented for the first time in Romania. At the first edition, the festival debuted with “The Lady”, directed by the famous Luc Besson, and closed with the Oscar-winning “Inside Job”, directed by the American filmmaker Charles Ferguson.

The jury will be comprised of personalities from the film industry and the press. The members of the jury of the first edition were Jay Weissberg, film critic at the prestigious American magazine “Variety”, Alin Tasciyan (Turkey), Vicepresident FIPRESCI (The International Federation of Film Critics), the reputed Serbian filmmaker Želimir Žilnik and the Romanian historian Stejărel Olaru. One of the special guests of the first edition was Hugues Le Paige, the famous Belgian journalist, documentarist, politologist and writer.

Organized by the Association for Culture and Image, CINEPOLITICA is endorsed by the National University of Drama and Film “I.L. Caragiale” (UNATC) and the National University of Arts Bucharest (UNArte). The National Centre of Cinematography (CNC) supports the event.
